Olmoost [-almost /ˈɔːlməʊst/pronounced with a heavy Dutch accent]
Olmoost is the creative practice of Merike van de Vijver, a Dutch animator and designer living and working in England. Over 10 years ago, Olmoost began as a small company creating felt designs, soft toys, and birth announcements. Since then, the work has evolved, but a strong preference for developing series—where every individual object and frame is unique—remains a defining thread in Merike’s practice.
With a focus on selecting the most appropriate techniques and disciplines to tell visual stories, she has expanded her knowledge of bookbinding and explored ways of turning these traditions on their head. Whether working in a workshop, a small home studio, or a larger animation production studio in Manchester, there is always a sense of joy in bringing warmth and life to still materials such as puppets, paper, felt, and objets trouvés.
On this website, you can explore a diverse range of work created by Olmoost over the past decade. Browse the animations or follow the links at the bottom of the page for a more social side of Olmoost. The blog, cabinet of curiosities, features a selection of inspiring images.
